Refund policy and withdrawal right

This policy explains the statutory right of withdrawal that consumers in the European Union hold when they order our information service, and sets out the model form you may use to exercise it.

Who holds the right

The withdrawal right belongs to consumers. A consumer is a natural person who enters into the agreement for purposes that are mainly outside a trade, business or profession. Business customers, and readers ordering under a Studio team arrangement, hold no statutory withdrawal right; cancellation for those arrangements follows the notice terms of the agreement.

The fourteen-day period

You may withdraw from a distance agreement without giving reasons within fourteen days. The period begins on the day the agreement is concluded. To meet the deadline it is enough to send your declaration before the period ends. The governing provision is section 355 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, BGB).

Digital content and early commencement

Where a tier gives immediate access to digital content, the law in section 356 (5) BGB allows the withdrawal right to end early if two conditions are met: you gave express consent to immediate performance, and you acknowledged that the right is lost once performance begins. We ask for both before granting immediate access. Where you have not given them, the full fourteen-day period runs. Nothing here affects your right to cancel a renewal, which always remains available.

Effects of withdrawal

When a valid withdrawal is received, we return every payment we have received from you without undue delay and in any event within fourteen days of the day we learn of your decision. We use the same means of payment that you used for the original transaction unless we agree otherwise, and you incur no charge for the return. If you requested access to begin during the withdrawal period and then withdraw, you pay a proportionate amount for the part of the service already supplied.
